Hi,
Im a technical theatre student, and well to be truthfull... lighting isnt my 'thing', but having said that, im really trying to research and get my head around it.

i found your article really intereasting, but would like to ask one question? ... when you say 'Hue', what do you mean by this?
is it a technical term for colour?

if you could reply, this would be really helpful.
Thank you,
Laura

Floyd, I think Lucas is speaking conceptually when he says theater has to be big, at least that's how I see it -- to think big, think beyond, think out of the box... Not physically big stage necessarily.
And, by the way, let me just say thank you Lucas for writing this and articulating so well exactly what I feel about the state of theater in this country (and possibly other countries too). And, really, like you say, seeing the boring safe crap out there is enough to make me just hang up my hat. Especially when dead theater is rewarded with big money and big praise. Aaarrrgh!

Combating this is my raison d'etre and I'm completely flummoxed by the number of playwright friends I have who plain don't see this.

This is a very frustrating time to be a playwright.

Fascinating article and one which should be writer widely identified almost in my compass. Your structure of point is quality and the clarity of composition is superior.
